Oh dear, I’ve only read one, the Elena Ferrante. I don’t know where to start!

The Ferrante title is the one I’m most looking forward to. I was thinking of giving a copy of My Brilliant Friend to a dear friend – we grew up together and every time I see that title I think of her. But, not having read it yet, I’m worried about it being appropriate. So often novels about female friendships end in betrayal, etc.

Hmm, maybe not. Not for a precious friend, unless you hand it over with a laugh to convey your certainty that your friendship is not like theirs.
My review is here (http://anzlitlovers.com/2013/11/10/my-brilliant-friend-by-elena-ferrante-translated-by-ann-goldstein/) but if you are worried about spoilers, all I would say is that the friendship is one characterised by competitiveness.
